Mrs. McGuire’s Second Grade

Thank you to all of the parents and students who attended parent-teacher conferences!  It is always such a pleasure to meet with you and discuss your child’s academic progress to date.  It’s hard to believe that we are fast approaching the mid-year mark!  We will be transitioning in to writing 5 sentence paragraphs with much of our writing emphasis on organization of and writing well-forumulated paragraphs.  Be sure to turn in those Box Tops and Campbell’s Soup Labels!  The students are anxious to win a contest!!!

The 2008-2009 school year is off to a great start!  A huge thank you to all of the parents and students for helping get our year off on the right foot!  We have started our curriculum and are so excited about the smiling faces and students who are so ready to learn new material!  In prepartation for homework to begin the week of September 8th, your child will bring home directions that explain how he/she will be creating a “Homework Kit” at home.  Please watch your child’s Friday Folder the week of September 1st for this informational assignment.  On September 5th, your child will also bring home his/her Poem for Home notebook.  Please have your child read it to as many people in the house.  By reading poems, your child’s fluency and comprehension will both improve.  After listening to it, please sign the parent signature form and have your child bring back his/her Poem for Home notebook to school.
